Day at Bingley – Walk to Saltaire and Shipley

Wednesday 13th April

After the excitement of yesterday we have had a more stress free time today. We walked back to Shipley, through Saltaire, to take the photos I didn’t manage to take yesterday and to go to the pet food suppliers to get food for himself.

The forecast was for wind and rain but save a bit of drizzle early on it hasn’t been a bad day really. We walked back to Shipley via the towpath, through Saltaire. Saltaire is ‘the ideal industrial settlement’, built in 1850 by Titus Salt, to save his mill workers from the appalling conditions in Bradford. We found the pet food place we had been looking for yesterday, got George some food then had some fat bastard bacon rolls in the covered market. Well, one of us had a BLT and the other had bacon, egg, sausage and cheese!  Back in Saltaire we went to The Boathouse for a pint, a very expensive pint, but you are paying for the location and the view over the river and the park.

We came back along the bank of the River Aire which was very nice. The bluebells are starting to come out now, lovely.

Later on we took George to The Fisherman’s. He knew exactly where it was, he had tried to take me there yesterday while I had him out for a wee! Talking of The Fisherman’s, when we were in there yesterday the landlord told us that a chap who was, at the time, having a smoke outside, was Peter Sutcliffe’s brother!

It’s the Bingley 3 and 5 rises tomorrow.
