Sunday 8th May
We were lucky to make it down the flight yesterday because it was closed in the afternoon, shortly after we had finished, due to a broken paddle. Nothing to do with us! A couple of boats who arrived later, thinking they could go up the flight, had to moor with us last night because they had to wait until BW have fixed the problem. When we got up this morning the boat behind us had disappeared, we never heard them go.
Another boat arrived this morning from the Leigh branch, also hoping to go up but they had to wait too. Actually it was a couple of chaps we met at Zouch last year when they were on their way to Liverpool and we were going to go up the T and M. It was nice to meet them again. The other people decided not to wait for the locks and went down the Leigh Branch instead.
We haven’t travelled a huge distance today, just 3 miles and 4 locks, the final 2 of the Wigan flight and 2 more. We are at Crooke, a small village with a marina, a pub and a few houses. It’s nice to be in the country again after Wigan, although it was ok there. We’re not sure where we’re going tomorrow yet.
