Halsall to Burscough

Thursday 12th May

As you can see we didn’t stop at Halsall today, I didn’t mention it anyway. It has been very windy and cold so we have only come back to Burscough. We were going to go up the Rufford Arm but as it is a bit of a tight turn and there are a swing bridge and lock as soon as you turn on to it and a further 3 locks in the first mile we decided not to bother today. However, as the forecast for the next few days is for more of the same we have only delayed the inevitable.

We took advantage of the close proximity of Tesco’s here and did 2 trips. We had to punctuate these trips with a visit to The Hopvine, a rather tasteful pub opposite the supermarket. This turned out to be a good move for two reasons. Apart from the good beer, which we enjoyed immensely, when we came out of the pub there was a fish van outside and we bought some absolutely superb haddock for us tea – bonus!

It’s still really windy and I am glad Ken is not fishing because with the cratch cover up the boat turns into a veritable wind tunnel, I would probably have to put my coat on!
