Day at Todmorden (Rain, rain, rain!)

Monday 30th May

As predicted the weather has, once again, been truly awful! It rained constantly until about 1pm by which time we were in the pub, of course. I spent the morning doing a bit of cleaning. We have had such a lot of locks to do lately and they have been so close together that I haven’t spent much time actually on the boat while we have been travelling. Nor have I had the inclination to start cleaning when we have finished after all the physical exertion! Sometimes, if there is a break of a mile or so between locks I can get the hoover out or do a bit of dusting but not recently.

After my cleaning spree we tried to get George to go for a walk but he refused to go more than a few yards. As it was tipping down at the time and no one had mentioned going to the pub I can’t blame him! So we went off to Morrison’s and then back to the Polished Knob for some more of their lovely cheap beer. B and B joined us after a while and we passed a pleasant hour or so there.

When we emerged from the pub it had stopped raining, hurrah. B and B went off to Morrison’s and we went back to the boat. A little while later we were having a chat with a man who was walking along the towpath when we spotted Barry returning alone with the shopping bags and guessed, correctly, that Barbara had disappeared into The Factory Shop for a little retail therapy. She returned some time later, laden with goodies!

Tomorrow we are going to Hebden Bridge.
