Gurnett Aqueduct to Fourlane Ends

Sunday 10th July

Today we have travelled 7 miles to Fourlane Ends. There are a few boats here but it is not chocker as Higher Poynton surely is. We had to negotiate a Junior Canoe Race at Bollington this morning. Or rather, we kept going straight and they had to negotiate us! Then further along there was marathon or some such going on. We caught them with 2 miles to go, a lady was holding up a sign saying so at a bridge and they all looked pretty knackered so it must have been a fairly lengthy affair. Of course marathons don’t do you any good in the long run (groan!)

When we got to Fourlane Ends we had to moor taking in to account the shelf, a bit like the one on the Shroppie, so a certain amount of fender realignment had to go on. Then we took George to The Miner’s Arms. Last time we went to the Miner’s Arms it rained as soon as we got there and we had to bring him back to the boat! This time it started raining just as we had finished so that was a bit of luck. Mind you, by the time I got back to the boat with him it was raining quite hard so we both got a bit wet. Ken, meantime, had buggered off to shut the cratch cover so he didn’t get wet.

Talking of Ken, the little love has got a swollen wrist – he got stung by a wasp when we were mooring up yesterday, bless.

We had a prop whine free period today and hardly dared to hope it had gone. Well, unfortunately it hasn’t. We had something round the prop which stopped it from whining until it came off, then the whining started up again! We need to buy a file when we get to Marple so we can do it some damage! Only joking, we just need to file a bit off one of the blades so they aren’t all the same.

We will be at Marple tomorrow and Peter is coming on Tuesday for a trip up to Bugsworth Basin.
