Wednesday 31st August
Not much progress today, having only travelled 1 mile and 3 locks! We are moored above Lock 8 outside the sanitary station. We got off to a bit of a late start because Barbara and I had to go to the Post Office and Barry and Ken just had to go to the fishing tackle shop. However, I was too early for my post restante mail and the fishing tackle shop was closed!
We moved on to the sanitary station and as it looked to be a nice rural setting we decided to stay there. There have been a lot of people about here today though, some of them more than once, so it must be fairly near a housing estate. We then walked back in to town so I could get my mail (which was there by that time) and Ken could go to the fishing tackle shop (which was still shut!)
We have actually seen 2 other boats today, the first since Monday, then we only saw 5 all day and 2 of them were day boats. This seems to be a very under used canal, much like the Rochdale. Indeed we attracted a lot of attention when we did the town centre locks this morning.
Tomorrow I think we are going to go to Uppermill.
