Friday 7th October
The wind has finally died down which means we are now not being blown off the bank and we are grinding on the shelf every time a boat goes past! This is only because we can’t be arsed to put the big fenders in though so it’s really our fault. Today we have stayed at Market Drayton and I have contacted the cratch cover man. We will be going to Shebdon tomorrow and having the zip replaced at last, hurrah!
This morning we went in to town again in search of the Homebase because Ken needed a piece of wood to replace the dip stick he left propped against the fence at Ellesmere. Now, as we have been here twice before you would think we would be able to remember where Homebase was wouldn’t you? Wrong, neither of us could. I could vaguely recollect having seen a Homebase near a supermarket somewhere we had been but I wasn’t sure it had been here. Ken even looked it up on the internet but when we followed the directions it we actually ended up in the wrong place entirely, nearly on the outskirts of the town! We thought it may be near Morrisons and went back there but it wasn’t. We eventually found it round the corner, next to Lidl.
Had the Netto store not have turned into an Asda and we had had to go to Morrison’s for our shopping yesterday we would have passed the Homebase next to Lidl on the way there and we would not have had to traipse about for ages looking for it this morning! Of course if either of us had a memory span better than a gnat we would have known where it was!
And another thing, had we have had to go to Morrison’s yesterday, chances are we would have spotted the Wetherspoon’s, which we also found by chance on our travels this morning and would thus have been able to avoid the two pubs with the shite beer we visited yesterday, aaargh!
