Monday 26th March
Today we had a trip on the bus to Northampton and I was amazed by the price of the bus fare. It cost me £5-80 for a day return! This bus company, Stagecoach, is the same one we used to go to Rugby from Crick last week. That journey was about the same length as the one today (maybe a few minutes shorter) and only cost me £3-40, why?
That aside we had a good day locating all we wanted. Ken got his shorts and a couple of polo shirts and I got my trainers. We also stocked up a bit in Tesco’s and got some veg off the market.
When we got back to the boat it was really hot. Thank God I let the fire go out or poor old George would have been cooked! Ken did his ‘man in a straw trilby asleep in a deckchair’ impersonation and I pottered about for a bit but it was too hot to do much. We shouldn’t complain though, this will probably turn out to be Summer!
According to someone Barbara was talking to earlier today the River Nene is being closed to boating soon until further notice. Exactly how long it will be closed for is anyone’s guess. We’ll have to hope the restriction has been lifted by the time we come back to go on it. However, if these dry conditions continue much longer we won’t be going anywhere anyway!
Tomorrow we are going to Stoke Bruerne which is just the other side of the Blisworth Tunnel and about 3 miles from here.
