Stoke Mill back to Pyrford

Monday 14th May

We had originally thought we would be doing the whole length of the navigation to Godalming but there is a very low bridge just before you get there and under normal river conditions it has 6ft 4in clearance. However, these are not normal river conditions and we decided not to risk trying to get under it. As rain was forecast again for today (and did it rain or what?) it would be unfortunate to get under it and then not be able to get back because the river had come up again.

Similarly we thought it would be prudent to get back through the flood gates at Worsfold and Walsham, just in case they had to be closed again, as they were when we arrived. So, giving Guildford a miss we turned round and made our way back to Pyrford and are now moored at The Anchor again. The journey down was not so difficult as it had been going up and took about an hour and a half less.

Tomorrow we are going to stay here.
