Cropredy to Fenny Compton

Wednesday 20th June

It’s been Summer today, warm and mostly sunny. We have travelled 6 miles and 9 locks from Cropredy to Fenny Compton and are moored above Fenny Compton Wharf. This journey took 5.5 hours with a 30 minute water stop.

We just made it on to the water point in time as everyone seemed to want to use it after we got there. A share boat, with two couples on, breasted up to us while they waited and were unloading some of their gear in to a car they had parked nearby. As one of the women stepped across the front of our boat to get to theirs there was a loud popping noise. She had stood on a bag of George’s poo, which I was about to take to the poo bin and it had burst! She had poo all over her foot and we had it all over the front of the boat. She was really embarrassed and offered to clean it up but we said not to worry and I soon cleared it up.

When we got under way we were following two single handed ladies up the locks so progress was a bit slow. I was helping them while I waited for our turn. When it was our turn I was, as usual, all on my own at the lock and would have remained so, had I not solicited some help from the 3 boats behind us whose crews seemed to be content to stand around talking!

We eventually arrived in Fenny Compton, having passed the ladies, who had moored for lunch and found a mooring just through Wharf Bridge. We were lucky to get in as there were no free moorings before that and none after that we could see. As it was a nice day and as he is now a lot better we took George to the pub. He had a lovely time laying in the sun and eating crisps and he got a couple of pats as well.

There is a shop in the village which is about a mile away but we couldn’t be bothered to walk there. We’re not desperate for anything and there is a shop at Napton so we will go there when we get there.
