Polesworth to Hopwas

Friday 29th June

Today has been quite windy but at least it has been dry. We have come 8 miles and 2 locks from Polesworth to Hopwas. We are moored near the school. We moored up twice actually, the first time near Ball’s Bridge, then spotting some Mooring Suspended notices and not being sure where abouts they actually referred to I phoned BW but no one seemed to know what I was talking about! Ken had a look to see if there were any free moorings further up and as there was one we moved on to the 48 hour moorings near the school, where there aren’t any notices, to be on the safe side.

We did hear from Jeff (a chap we know from Willington) in the pub, that the notices are up to stop people mooring near the bridges (Ball’s Bridge and Dixon’s Bridge) because the Olympic Torch Relay is coming through here tomorrow and it’s something to do with terrorists, so he heard!

George is ok and enjoyed a nice walk (he is walking quite well at the moment) along the towpath from the first mooring to the second while Ken took the boat. I think he was puzzled when we went straight past the pub though!

We are getting the Hell out of dodge tomorrow before the torch arrives along with hundreds of people no doubt!
