Monday 18th March
Today dawned foggy and frosty but the sun soon got up and it turned out to be a lovely day. There was no sign of the forecasted showers and no wind so cruising was very pleasant.
We have travelled 8 miles and 2 locks from Hopwas to Polesworth and are moored near Bridge 52. Mick and Cathy arranged to meet us at Polesworth as they had been away for the weekend and still had the hire car.
We had a couple of things to contend with on the way. Firstly, Glascote bottom lock was very slow to fill, I mean REALLY slow, it took ages. Also, when I was operating the towpath side ground paddle a huge spurt of water came up and I got absolutely soaked! This problem is being fixed on Thursday with the canal being closed for the day.
Then when we got to Alvecote there was a boat across the canal. It had been left there after having some work done at the boat yard (which was closed today) and the front had become untied and drifted out. We moored up and managed to get it back to the bank and tied it up properly. We arrived here at Bridge 52 just as Mick and Cathy were driving over it, what are the chances of that?
There are a few more boats moving about this week than there were last week.We were the only ones moored here this afternoon but this evening the moorings are full.
Tomorrow it’s the Atherstone flight!
