Saturday 6th April
Well, well, well, if it isn’t spring at last, better late than never! I have actually felt warm today. I have been down to 4 layers of clothes and sans hat and scarf. I even took my gloves off after a while as well. We have had a nice day travelling the 6 miles and 9 locks from Fenny Compton to Cropredy. We are moored downstream of Cropredy Wharf Bridge between the BW barge and the Long Term Permit Holders.
We first moored upstream of Cropredy Lock but found the moorings were 24 hours only and opposite a load of houses so we went down the lock in search of a better one. Then as we were passing the sanitary station we made a detour to empty the loo and get more water as I had done some washing on the way here. We didn’t know how far we would have to go to moor up.
As it happens the mooring we are in is within backing up distance of the sanitary station so we can go there again before we have to move on Monday, hopefully to one of the 14 day moorings, if there is a space. We have still got over 2 weeks until we want to be in Thrupp and nearly 3 weeks until we have to be in Southampton for the wedding so we need to kill a bit of time. We have got further than we thought sooner than we anticipated, if you see what I mean!
By the time we had finished at the sanitary station and moored up again it was getting on. After a visit to the shop for a paper it was nearly 2 pm before we got in the Red Lion, that’s late! It has been really sunny this afternoon making it hot in the boat with the fire going (yes, I’m not letting that go out yet!) and the oven on. We have had doors and windows open for the first time in weeks! Long may it continue.
