Stay at Thrupp – Got a 7 day mooring!

Tuesday 23rd April

Happy St George’s Day. We were still in bed this morning when we heard a boat go past. I know we don’t get up early but this was before 7 am. At 10 to 7 Ken made me get up and by 8 am we were reversing down the canal to a vacant space on the 7 day moorings. Just as we were trying to winkle our way in to it (it was a bit tight) another boat left the moorings so we went into their rather longer space.

So here we are now, happily moored, until next Tuesday. With our manoeuvres out of the way it was only 8-30 am so we had a coffee and sat in the cratch. I made a phone call then we went off to reacquaint ourselves with the bus times, a) to go to Oxford today and b) to see how they fit in with the train we are catching on Friday. As it happened we were a bit early for the 10-33 am bus so we walked (for about 20 mins) in to Kidlington and waited at a bus stop there for 15 mins.

While we were in Oxford we got Ken a new tie as his old ones are a bit dodgy! He said he wasn’t going to pay £16 for a tie in M & S or BHS, as he would hardly ever wear it, so we ended up in Primark where he got a nice silk tie for only £4! On the way in to the Westgate Centre we noticed a lot of fire engines and apparently there was a big fire in the County Library next door.

We went back to the bus via The Four Candles where there was a domestic going on round the corner. This couple came in and were already bickering. Their antagonism was fuelled by a bottle of wine and he ended up telling her to – ‘F*!” Off!’ Charming.

We made a quick detour in to Tesco’s on the way to the bus and got a few bits. When we got back to the boat it was so hot inside, as I had kept the fire in, we had to open all the doors and windows and leave the cratch cover up all afternoon. No wonder we both fell asleep!

There is an ugly rumour going round that we may be doing something useful tomorrow. Surely not!
