Monday 20th May
This morning we went off to Bedworth as planned and did a rather large shop at Tesco’s. It doesn’t take long to get from Hawkesbury to Bedworth on the bus and we went too early. By the time we had finished the shopping it was only 11-30 am so we got back to the boat quite early.
On the bus back we met a lovely old chap, who was going to visit his wife in the University Hospital. He recognised my accent (surely not) and began to tell us about his father who was born in Thurne. We chatted about all the places on the Broads and in Norfolk that he knew.
It is virtually unheard of for us to begin a cruise in the afternoon but we thought that as we were back in such good time we may as well move on a few miles, thus making tomorrow’s journey shorter. So, we got ready to leave deciding to get water before we did the stop lock.
There had been a boat on one of the water points near the stop lock when we had walked past but by the time we were ready to go they had gone. We were just untying our mooring ropes when we noticed a boat coming so we waited until they passed and they went in to the water point. No matter, there are two taps there. We were just about to pull out again when another boat came past and of course they went into the other water point!
Luckily there are a further two taps through the stop lock and round the corner on the Coventry Canal, which we had to pass anyway, so that is where we went to get our water. After filling the water tank we travelled about 6 miles to a lovely rural spot between Nuneaton and Hartshill. We have started a trend because another boat has moored here since we did.
Tomorrow we are planning to get to Fazeley Junction.
