Day at Fazeley – Trip to Tamworth, rain all day and another disaster!

Tuesday 28th May

True to the forecast it has been chucking it down with rain all day! We got soaked first thing (well, first thing for us) going to Tesco Express in the high street for milk and a paper. Later on we went to Tamworth on the bus (Arriva Local Day Saver £4-20 for me) which only took about 15 minutes.

It was market day today and we spent a soggy time looking round the various stalls, of which there were many. We also found a Coate’s Butchers (same as Alrewas) and got beef dripping, eggs and a good deal on neck of lamb. After all this walking round the market in the rain we had to find somewhere to dry out (on the outside anyway) so we went to The Bole Bridge. I was delighted to find they had Jenning’s Cocker Hoop on (you could say I was Cocker Hoop!) as it is one of my (many) favourite beers. Ken tried the Burton Bridge Heart of Oak but it was a bit too citrussy for him.

A disaster befell us when we got back to the boat. Ken shut the door of the washing machine, just as it has been shut hundreds of times before and it refused to open again. Despite some gentle persuasion, some technical persuasion and some rather stronger persuasion we just could not get it open. In the end a large screwdriver did the trick but rendered the door catch totally useless. So we now need a new washing machine and I will soon need a cure for ‘wash day red’!

Investigations of the dimensions of the machine reveal that it is going to be practically impossible to remove it from the back room without dismantling the boat! The joys, the joys …………..

We are not sure where we are going tomorrow.
