Radford Semele to The Saltisford Canal Centre in Warwick

Saturday 15th June

Today has been very windy at times (especially when Ken was winding at the canal centre!), wet at times and not particularly warm either. However, we have travelled 6 miles and only 3 locks from Radford Semele to Warwick. We are moored at the Saltisford Canal Centre on the Saltisford Arm.

It is so nice here, almost like being in the country but a stone’s throw from the town centre. We are moored on the wharf outside the canal centre office. It is free for the first night then £5 per night and we are on the electric hook up for £3 per night as well, so £8 per night really. The battery charger is on, the immersion heater is on and the electric kettle and microwave have both been pressed into service already. No doubt the iron will get an airing too.  If I had a working washing machine it would be running night and day at the moment!

Talking of washing machines, I will be taking advantage of the launderette here this week, starting tomorrow. It is £1 per express wash, 50p for 30 min drying and there is a free spin dryer so it’s very reasonable. The last launderette I had to use was at Brentford and it was £4 per wash and 50p in the dryer produced about 2 minutes of luke warm air!

A 10 minute walk from here is Sainsbury’s and a further 10 minutes brings you to the town centre. There is a bus stop just outside the gate and buses run every 10 minutes to Town or to Leamington Spa. I sound like a travel brochure!

We walked into town this afternoon and got a few things from Sainsbury’s on the way back. Tomorrow we are going to walk up the Hatton flight of 22 locks just so I can see what delights I have to come when we leave here.
