Monday 17th June
We were awoken shortly after going to bed last night (late due to Confederations Cup Football from Brazil) by our Carbon monoxide alarm which had apparently decided we were in imminent danger of certain death by CO poisoning! The fact that we had shut the fire down ages before and the cooker was obviously not on didn’t seem to deter it from flashing it’s red light and shrieking loudly.
Despite opening all the windows, the hatches and the doors it just wouldn’t shut up so in the end, deciding it was faulty, I extracted the batteries! The fact that we did not pass away peacefully in the night is testament to the fact that the boat was not full of noxious fumes and the alarm was indeed faulty. I replaced the batteries this morning and off it went again so it is now redundant! We have another one in the bedroom so we are not without a CO detector.
This morning I did a couple of loads of my European washing mountain. Our gas man came about 11 am and decided we need 2 gas isolators, one on the cooker and one on the hob as well. He is going to come back to fit them and the test point sometime during the week. It will be a challenge finding somewhere to put everything when I have to empty the cupboards so he can get at the pipes!
After the gas man had been we went to Leamington on the bus (Stagecoach Day Rider £4-60) for a quick shop and the obligatory pint.We had a very interesting time watching the ‘shoplift to order’ gang plying their trade outside and inside the pub. Bags of meat and mobile phones were exchanged in the short time we were there.
We may go to Leamington again later in the week as we have Peter arriving tomorrow for a few days. I think a visit to Warwick Castle is on the cards for Wednesday.
