Friday – Peter Goes, The Gas Man Comes Back and We Decide To Stay

Friday 21st June

Peter went home this morning after his visit. We had a very cultural time with the two castle trips and the Wetherspoon’s trips too of course!

Having not heard from our gas man all week I phoned him to find out when he was going to do our job. He said he would come this morning so I emptied the cupboard and took the drawer out under the hob. Ken took the shelves out of the cupboard as well and we tacked up the wire from the gas starter which was resting on the gas pipe and shouldn’t have been. I then busied myself hogging the washing machines in the laundry and doing other domestic tasks. Ken took his maggots out for a walk and played with his fishing gear.

The gas man, Ian, arrived at about 10-30 am and after some time of poking about in the cupboard, clanking of tools and a bit of Anglo Saxon language he emerged muttering something about the size of the pipe work and had to go and get more parts! We knew he was coming back because he left his tools behind!

He did come back some time later and during the course of his work he found, cleverly concealed behind a wooden panel —— the gas test point, ta dah! Why anyone would put a wooden panel, with no inspection hole in, over something which needs to be readily accessible I don’t know but there you go. So he only needed to put the two isolator switches in in the end. He also had to help us put the shelf back in the cupboard because neither of us could get it to go back in!

Anyway, 3 hours and £120 later we are ready for our retest. I phoned Nigel and the soonest date he can fit us in is July 1st so after some consideration we have decided to stay here until the 2nd because if we move on – a) we don’t know where we will be by July 1st and – b) as we are going to Stratford and then on the Avon we will be going well out of Nigel’s area, if we aren’t already!

I’m sure we can amuse ourselves round here for another week or so.
