Wednesday 26th June
We had a day off from the cleaning today and went to Stratford Upon Avon on the bus. I made a bit of a mistake when I got on the bus and asked for a Dayrider ticket thinking it would be £4-60 like it was when we went to Kenilworth. The driver said £8-00. I repeated that I wanted a Dayrider ticket and he asked me where I was going so I said Stratford and he said it was £8 because it didn’t come under a local trip or something. The bus was full and I didn’t want to make a prat of myself so I just paid.
The ticket was a Dayrider Gold and I could go virtually anywhere in the country with it! The trip to Stratford only took 20 minutes and I kept chuntering about this £8-00 ticket all day. Anyway I realised later I should have just asked for a return to Stratford, which would probably have been cheaper, silly cow!
When we got to Stratford had a good look round the basin and along the canal and the river to suss out the configuration and the moorings because we will be taking the boat there next week. I say next week, actually it will be the week after before we get there as we will be hanging around on the canal between here and there for a while in order to avoid the River Festival which is on 6th and 7th July. We don’t want a repeat perfomance of last year when we almost ended up in Braunston on the weekend of the Historic Boat Rally and had to moor nearly 2 miles away and walk in!
After our recce mission by the river we had a walk round the town and looked a bit touristy. I took a load of photos for you to get ‘bard’ looking at! Sorry, couldn’t resist the pun. We also went to Boots to replenish Ken’s nasal spray for his hay fever (still bad) and I needed some Soothers (sore throat and a cough), then we settled in the garden of The Red Lion, which is not the Wetherspoons by the way, for a restorative tincture.
When we got back to Warwick the G1 bus was just coming in to the bus station so, although it is only a 10 min walk to the Canal Centre, we got the bus so I could get a bit more for my money!
Not sure what we’re doing tomorrow.
