Stratford to Welford on Avon – Very peaceful here!

Wednesday 10th July

We were up and about this morning so we could get a could get bread and a paper from Sainsbury’s before we left the basin. We wanted a couple of things from Boot’s as well but we were too early for them so we’ll get them another time.We have travelled 5 miles and 4 locks from Stratford upon Avon to Welford on Avon.

We left with an Anglo Welsh hire boat called Buckland at just before 9 am. We got in Stratford lock after Empress Maud came out but Buckland had to wait for them to reverse in to a mooring before they could get out. Eventually we descended the lock on to the Avon. We did the next two locks, Colin P Witter lock and Weir Brake lock, with Buckland then we stopped for water and to empty the loo at Luddington and they carried on.

After our sanitary things were out of the way we carried on down Stan Glover Lock and hoped to moor at Binton Bridges but could see no sign of any moorings, except for one short one at the pub and another short one at the marina, so we continued to W A Cadbury lock and moored above it on the free for one day moorings.

It is so quiet here compared to the hustle and bustle of Stratford. The moorings were empty when we arrived at just after 12 pm and there are 4 other boats here now. We have spent the rest of the day sitting on the bank or having a dose and Ken has been fishing this evening. We ate the Zander he caught the other night tonight and it was very good. We’re hoping for another one soon!

Tomorrow we are heading for Bidford which is only 3 miles and 3 locks away so I may get a lie in.
