Friday 30th August
As we were getting ready to leave this morning the couple off Ami Bovard came over for a chat which was nice but unfortunately that resulted in our missing Bagnall Lock as a boat went past while we were chatting. We got going and had to wait while a boat came up, then the boat which had passed us went down, then a sort of ‘extension’ to the boat which had come up also came up. Then after finally doing the lock we rounded the next corner and someone pulled out in front of us!
The water point was free so we decided to get water in Alrewas rather than stop at Barton later on. One more boat passed us while we were filling up. When we came off the water point we were 4th in the queue for the lock. We finally descended the lock and didn’t have any more hold ups on the rest of the journey.
We have travelled 6 miles and 5 locks from Alrewas to Branston and are moored just past the water park. The whole journey took us exactly 4 hours. Mick and Cathy left at stupid o’clock, didn’t get held up at all and did the trip in less than 3 hours!
We had a chat with the couple on the boat we had been ‘stalking’ all the way here as we were now moored in front of them and then we walked in to the village. Mick and Cathy had already left to walk up to Morrisons, very energetic! We couldn’t be bothered to walk up there so we will go to Asda in Burton tomorrow when we go in on the bus.
After visiting the shop (paper and milk) we had to go to The Blacksmith’s Arms just to see if the Bass was still the same as it had been when we were here in March. And it was lovely.
Mick and Cathy are off to Ragley tomorrow, we are staying here and going to Burton on the bus as I said, then we are going to Willington on Sunday and will probably get to Ragley on Monday.
