Today we went to Rugby again and we did indeed both get new trainers. Ken got his from Clarke’s (posh) and I got mine at Trespass (not quite so posh). His were reduced from £110 to £70 and mine were half price at £50 so two bargains were had.
Talking of bargains Ken popped in to Midland Chandlers before we caught the bus and asked them if they could put one of the 12v tvs we were looking at yesterday aside for us to get on Friday when the 20% discount event is on. The manager was there and he said we could have it with the discount today so Ken paid for it then and we picked it up on our way back from Rugby. We saved £55 (paid for my trainers) so we were well pleased.
This means that we can move on tomorrow instead of incurring the wrath of the moorings enforcement officer by leaving this 48 hour mooring and then mooring again somewhere nearby until Friday. CRT are having a crackdown on over staying and not moving far enough in ‘honeypot’ moorings such as this and we really should move on.
What wasn’t so much of a bargain though was my bus fare which was £5-65! We did, however, get our first beers in the Wetherspoons for £1-99 a pint instead of £2-35 as the barman made a mistake!
Tomorrow we are going to the top of Stockton Locks on our way to Warwick. Did I mention that we were on our way to Warwick? Our plan to go to Paddington Basin was thwarted by the fact that at the very time we were planning arrive at Paddington there is some kind of canal event at Little Venice. Over 100 boats are expected for it so we thought there would be no chance of being able to get a mooring and decided on Plan B.
This is not a disaster because we can do London from Lechlade at the end of the Oxford later in the year and Paddington Basin after that. It doesn’t matter what we do or when we do it. We may change our minds again before that.
So we are off to Warwick for a few days. I am hoping to get a haircut as I am starting to resemble a bush faggot again! I have been to a hairdressers in Warwick before so will try the same one. We are also hoping to moor in the Saltisford Canal Arm again as we really enjoyed it last time we were there.
Last time we were there Peter joined us for a couple of days, This time Mum and Dave are coming so we are looking forward to that.
