Return Journey – Froghall back to Cheddleton

Thursday 6th May.

Just when you thought it was safe – I have got an internet connection in Cheddleton! We are moored in a different place to where we were the other day when we were here and there is a signal. There is no TV reception here though. In fact we haven’t been able to watch TV since we were at Milton last Sunday. Not that we’ve missed much.

Today started off a bit wet but we needed to go to a shop and as there isn’t one in Froghall we had to move. It soon stopped raining but never really brightened up and it was quite cold this afternoon. I’ve got a different brand of coal and haven’t really got to grips with it yet. Last night we were absolutely sweltering, it was 30 degrees in here! Then during the day today the fire went out all together so I had to relight it!

It was a pity the fire went out because we were freezing when we got back from sitting outside the Red Lion for an hour with George! Apart from the usual crisps he had another couple of things at the pub to occupy him. Firstly he found a football which, had I let him, he would have set about destroying. The only place I could find to put it out of his way was up on a wall where, unfortunately, he could still see it. However, he could not reach it and he spent ages jumping up and down and trying to climb up the wall after it. Then he discovered some bread, also just out of his reach, which had been put out for the resident chickens. He also spent some time trying to get that!

There are still very few boats on the move on the canal. I don’t know if it is always like this or if it gets busy in the summer. It has certainly been a very peaceful week!
