Staying in Braunston – Including a move to the 14 day moorings

We are still in Braunston albeit on a different mooring from when we got here. We have decided on our next move so after our allotted 48 hours round the corner from the turn we reversed back and turned round.

We have to make another visit to London in May and are planning to leave the boat at Alvecote Marina in Tamworth and go from Tamworth station. So we will go down the North Oxford, make a stop at Hawkesbury Junction, do a trip up the Ashby before making our way down the Coventry Canal to Tamworth.

To this end we are now pointing in the right direction and were lucky to find a recently vacated space on the 14 day moorings opposite the field with the sheep in with a lovely view of the church. Indeed we had a close encounter under the road bridge with the previous occupants of this space on the way here. They were the proud owners of a share in a boat from Nantwich and both seemed more than a little perturbed to meet us there!

Going back to the saga of the 12v tv. As we had not had a phone call from Midland Chandlers about the replacement we had arranged for them to get went up there Wednesday when we got here to see what was going on. It transpired that they had been trying to contact us but Ken had misquoted his phone number so they couldn’t! Anyway they said they would order us one and it would be here Friday.

So Friday after moving to the 14 day moorings we went back to collect it but they hadn’t been able to get a 24″ one from any of their other stores because they said they had been discontinued. They said they thought they had an ex display model in stock and we have a sneaking suspicion that was the one we already had!

We were getting a bit peeved but decided to settle for a 19″ because it was the only size they had left in stock. We waited ages for them to put the 24″ back onto the till system so we could get a refund and buy the 19″ one.

Back at the boat we tried and tried to set up this new one but although we got the installation menu up, which was an improvement on the first one, it just wouldn’t pick up any channels. After quite some time and trying all possibilities we went to the pub for a board meeting!.

We took it back that afternoon and discovered they have actually stopped dealing with cello all together anyway so they wouldn’t be getting any more in.Great, what now? The chap who had been testing the tv to make sure it actually didn’t work found a 19″ Cello Traveller which had exactly  the same features as the one we had just brought back only with a different name so we just took it and ran! Fortunately it works perfectly on both 240v and 12v so we are very happy.

While we were titting about with all this tv business I had a text from Mum saying our postal voting papers had arrived so we arranged for her to send them to the Post Office here which was very convenient. We have to stay until Tuesday now to ensure we get them before we move on.

Saturday we went to Daventry on the bus. At £3-40 it was a good deal cheaper than going to Rugby. We did a bit of shopping or at least I did getting a few things including a dress for the August wedding. We then found a nice pub in which to watch the football.

Today we have spent titting about with the finer minutae of setting up the new tv and making good, tidying wires etc and been to the shop and the pub.

We will stay here tomorrow.
