Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May
This weekend spent at Hawkesbury has been a bit of a Curate’s egg. Saturday we went to Nuneaton on the bus. We went to Asda, across the road from the bus station first then went in to town. I didn’t venture into the hardware shop as there were just too many people about with it being market day and Bank Holiday weekend, I cheated with the kettle and got one I had seen previously in Argos. After Argos we went in Maplins and got a universal in car charger to use for the laptop on the 12v socket.
We had a look round the market, getting eggs and some veg before going in the George Eliot Hotel to watch the football. While I was rearranging the rucksacks, as is my wont, I noticed my umbrella had gone missing. Racking my brains I realised it must have fallen out of the side pocket while I was packing the shopping in Asda. This has happened twice before so I don’t know why I still put it in the sideĀ pocket!
At half time in the football I had to hot foot it back to Asda and retrieve my umbrella from Customer Services. Just as well as it was now raining!
Unfortunately, when we got home and tried our new charger we discovered that out of the 12 different power tips supplied not one of them actually fits our computer! Aaaargh, had we have known we could have got the right one at the time!
Being Sunday the next day the buses didn’t run so we couldn’t get a bus back to Nuneaton. However a little research discovered another Maplins almost along side the canal on the way to Coventry which we could walk to. I ordered what we wanted on click and collect for the next day.
Sunday was a pretty wet affair with rain or heavy showers all day. Undeterred we donned our waterproofs to walk to Maplins, about 2.5 miles away, to collect the power tips I had ordered. We had just got to the bridge for Tesco’s at The Ricoh Arena when I got a text from Maplins saying they were unable to fulfil my order.
Good job we hadn’t walked all the way there already. We made a detour into Tesco’s and got some really nice cod loin for dinner and a few other things then walked back. So we are still unable to use the 12v charger for the computer. Not a huge problem but just a nuisance.
When we got back we went to The Greyhound and as we thought it would be, it was heaving, especially when it pissed down again and all the people sitting outside had to come in!
Monday we will start our third attempt to do the Ashby.
