Sunday 16th May.
We have had a really relaxing day today. This morning Ken and I went for a wander round the town. We did go quite some way out of our way to get there but it was a pleasant enough walk. Congleton is a nice town with all the usual shops, although being Sunday there weren’t many open, which did surprise me a bit. I have taken a few photos and you will see that most of the interesting buildings are in fact pubs! And no, we didn’t go in them all! In fact we didn’t go in any of them, although the Wetherspoon’s was open! We did go for a coffee and a naughty cake in Costa’s which cost more than our usual lunchtime beer allowance! However, all was not lost because we got a huge bunch of bananas, a bag of spuds and a loaf of bread (Hovis) in Farmfoods for – £2, you can’t argue with that!
George made it to the Queen’s Head again this lunchtime. Two days running, he’ll have to have a day off tomorrow! Talking of which, it has been decided that for the 12 lock flight I am going to drive and Ken is going to do the locks. I hope there aren’t as many boats about as there have been today as I am still practicing!
This is a very popular place for people, especially families, to go for a walk and all afternoon we have been scrutinised thoroughly, mostly by children but by some adults too, gawping straight in our windows! Not just a sneaky glance but a full on stare! In fact a couple of the little darlings practically had their noses pressed up against the glass! Their parents didn’t seem to think it was rude but I bet they would if this boat was a house, especially their house! You feel like leaping up and going BOO! Scaring them witless, bless. The joys of living on a boat.
