Zouch to Loughborough – Two stage trip.

We discovered that there is going to be a fishing match on Sunday along the bank opposite where we were moored. Our last experience of being moored in the midst of a fishing match was not a pleasant one so we decided to move today.

And we have done a really long trip – 5 miles and 2 locks! Well, we did do it in 2 stages actually. We travelled 4 miles, 2 locks and had a water stop first and then moored at The boat. We went to the shop for a paper and some milk and then had a couple of pints of Sneck Lifter at The Boat.

We don’t like to moor outside pubs especially on a Saturday night so after our drink we moved on another mile to Bridge 34 out of the town. It’s lovely and rural here and Ken was hopeful that the fishing would be better than it was last night.

Last night the fish were either so small they couldn’t take even a single maggot or, when he swapped to luncheon meat for bait, they were crayfish!

Unfortunately tonight’s fishing efforts have, up to now, been hampered by a) – a surfeit of boats coming past and/or b) – a load of weed which has been cut floating constantly into his line!

We are not sure what we are doing tomorrow.
