Thursday 1st July
Further to my earlier post – We haven’t come far today, only from Endon which is about 1 and a quarter miles away and the 5 locks of the Stockton Brook flight. I’m afraid we have had a couple of dog poo incidents today. One of the (many) hazards of living on a boat is dog poo! Today I stood in a huge pile of it while doing the top lock of this flight. God I was livid! Bloody irresponsible dog owners get on my damned wick. Most of the time they are walking about 50 yards in front of or behind their dogs and have no idea where they are leaving their deposits! Then later on I was getting George off the boat for a wee and there was a fresh pile by the front of our boat, right where we get off! I was apoplectic this time. If I had an MP I would write to him! I don’t let George poo near moored boats, especially if I know there is someone on there. I drag him away (much to his chagrin if he really wants to go!) and make him go somewhere else. If he does do it by moored boats I always clear it up, well I always clear it up anyway.
Aside from the poo we have had a nice day not doing much at all. Well, Ken went to the shop and I did the hoovering and ironing. Then we took George to The Sportsman where we had a couple of their fab (and cheap) ham and salad rolls and a couple of pints. It has rained on and off this afternoon which has actually been a bit of a relief after all the scorching weather we have had lately. Rain is much needed here to be honest, we had to fill the middle pound on the Cheddleton locks yesterday as the water was very low. Overnight rain only would be good though.
