Still at Higher Poynton – It has finally stopped raining!

Friday 16th July

We spent last night being buffeted by gale force winds and occasional driving rain. This morning there was very little improvement in the weather so we haven’t moved to Bugsworth yet. However, we have had a very enjoyable day. Ken went off to the shop this morning and discovered a butcher’s which I missed yesterday so we had some rather delicious meat pies for dinner.

Lunchtime we took George to the pub but unfortunately there was already a black labrador (one of his favourites) in the bar. So we started off sitting outside in the (rather small) covered smoking area but the wind was so strong that when it rained again it drove straight in there so I had to return him, sulking, to the boat! Penny joined us at the pub when she returned from Poynton on the bus. We were very remiss yesterday in not asking her to come with us then. We don’t like to assume everyone else is a piss artist like us! We had a very pleasant couple of hours at the pub. They had Adnam’s Broadside on for £2-68 a pint!  It had even stopped raining when we came out. However it soon started again, hopefully the canals are filling up a bit now!

The forecast for tomorrow is a little better so I think we may try to make it to Bugsworth before the next lot of rain descends upon us. Won’t be doing any ‘home improvements’ until the weather gets better though!
