Tuesday 29th Sept
This morning dawned foggy again and we could hardly see across the river to Victoria Park. We knew there was mowing and strimming going on however because of the awful noise! Bloody Hell we’ve never known it so noisy at the County Hall Steps.
We left as soon as we could because we wanted to do sanitary station things at Meadow Lane Lock then stop at Sainsbury’s before travelling 9 miles and 2 locks to Trent Lock,
By the time we had finished getting water the fog had started to lift. After doing the shopping we had a lovely trip in glorious weather to Trent Lock where we moored in Cranfleet Cut opposite the Sailing Club.
It was really nice to be moored somewhere peaceful after the disturbance in Nottingham. We went off to the Trent Lock for a couple of pints of Rev James but they had taken the Rev James off so we had to have Pedigree. I do wish pubs would keep our favourite beers on, we’re doing our best to keep them going!
Wednesday 30th Sept
We spent a very quiet night last night at Trent Lock and woke refreshed. We moved on to Sawley today and filled with diesel at 57p a litre (unbelievably cheap) before mooring on the wall as we don’t want to go back in the marina just yet.
We went round to the marina though and got Brian so we could go to Willington to pick up some mail Mum had sent. Unfortunately she had sent it to Mercia Marina instead of the post office by mistake. This was a bit of a faux pas because the letter contained our mooring contract for Sawley Marina!
We thought we could remember how to get to Willington by car having done it easily once before but we were wrong. Firstly we took the wrong exit at the first roundabout and instead of going on the A 50 we were heading for Castle Donington. However we were able to quickly turn round and come back and get on the A 50.Then we came off the A 50 too soon ending up going down the A 6 towards Derby. We eventually got on the right road again but then decided to try an alternative route towards Willington via Findern to approach the marina from the right direction, went wrong at Stenson Bubble and ended up in Littleover!
After eventually getting to Willington and picking up the mail we had a pint in The Dragon then went back to Sawley by the route we knew. Back at Sawley we went in the marina, signed the contract and paid for our years moorings. With that out of the way we walked to the Harrington for another pint and a sit in the sun.
Tomorrow we are probably taking the boat into the marina so I can get on with the washing and ironing associated with packing for a weekend in London followed by 2 weeks in Lanzarote!
