Swarkestone to Ragley – More progress

Thursday 21st April.

Today more progress on our boat improvements was made with Tim from Staffordshire Canopies arriving in the morning to fit the new cratch cover. While he was doing that Ken painted the back deck and the weedhatch. I decided to leave the side painting until another time so as to not get in Tim’s way.

Phil the boat painter also came (albeit by a rather prolonged and circuitous route) to survey what needed doing on our signwriting and other blemishes. We have yet to arrange an actual date for the work to be done.

After Phil had gone and Tim had finished fitting the cover we walked about a mile and a half along the towpath to Ragley Boat Stop where we had a drink with Mick and Cathy who had been moored there since Tuesday.

When we returned to the boat I decided to do the second coat of paint under the gunwales while the weather was nice and I had the enthusiasm. After this I put some anti slip tape on the floor of the cratch.

Friday 22nd April

Today we decided to move to Ragley Boat Stop and have a consolidation day on the free electric! To this end I put the first lot of washing on on the way here. After getting to Ragley and mooring I did the hoovering, put on another lot of washing and got the first lot of tumble drying under way.

Then we walked up to Asda at Sinfin. This is a walk of about 30 minutes on a rather dodgy road to start with. When we got back we went for another drink with Mick and Cathy.

Tomorrow we are off to Willington where (hopefully) we wil be able to paint the Starboard side of the boat.
