We were up early today (before 6-30am!) and away by 8am. Ken had already gone to the Coop and Coate’s butchers. We got water in Alrewas so we didn’t have to worry if we couldn’t get on a water point at Fradley then set off.
We made good progress as all the locks were for us and there were lock keepers at Fradley too. We turned on to the Coventry canal just before 9-30am. On our trip today we passed boats called ‘Damper Van’ and ‘Wideman in a Narrowboat’ which we thought were mildly amusing.
As it happened there was a water point free as we turned on to the Coventry so we pulled in there while I went to empty the loo and get rid of the rubbish.
We then had a rather chilly and sometimes wet trip from Fradley to Whittington and are moored beyond Whittington Bridge opposite the Fisherwick Nurseries. This mooring is right by the road but it isn’t a busy road so it is quite quiet.
After mooring we went in to the village for a couple of things from the Coop which I forgot to tell Ken to get this morning and then went to The Bell for a nice pint of Abbot!
I had made the fire up before we left to go to the village as it was really chilly. However, the sun got out this afternoon and the boat was like an oven when we got back! It was made even worse when I cooked the dinner.
This evening Ken is doing some fishing. For the first time for ages it is warm enough to have the door open and the cratch cover up. This is a relief as it is still hot in here!
Tomorrow we are going to Alvecote.
