Coven to the Shropshire Union Canal

Saturday 14th August

We are now on the Shroppie, about a mile and a half outside Brewood (pronounced Brood). Bre was the Celtic word for hill so Brewood means wood on the hill. We have come about 6 miles and done one stop lock at the entrance to the Shropshire Union canal. Where we have moored is a lovely spot and was recommended to us by several people who have been here before.

As we are so far from Brewood we couldn’t take himself to the pub but he just had another sleep and didn’t notice we had gone to the ‘shops’. We sussed out the village moorings and will probably move the boat up there tomorrow so he can visit The Bridge Inn with us. Or we may move on to Wheaton Aston instead.

There were light showers this morning but these turned heavier this afternoon. We managed to sit out on the bank for about half an hour and I did get a photo of a rainbow over the field next to where we are moored up. There is supposed to be better weather tomorrow we hope.
