Today we left the moorings just after 8am and firstly stopped at Llanthony pontoon to do the water, rubbish and loo. Then we went a few more hundred yards and stopped at Sainsbury’s for a bit of a stock up. Mooring right outside the store is really handy for those heavy purchases such as beer and tinned fruit.
After shopping we made our way to Saul Junction which is about 8 miles from Gloucester. All the time we were travelling and well into the afternoon it was raining. Good job I managed to get new trainers yesterday!
We found the moorings before the bridge at Saul Junction to be a bit congested so we decided to moor up before we got to them. This year it seems that CRT have decided to cut back on the expense of mowing the towpath along this canal by not actually doing it!
Last time we were here there were miles and miles of lovely mown canal sides on which to moor but this year hardly any mowing has been done. However as we have been here before we know where you can moor even though you can’t actually see the edge at the moment. We picked a spot where someone had moored previously and the waist high grass was a bit flattened making it a bit easier to get off the boat and see where to put the mooring chains in.
After we had moored I got the shears out and did a bit of gardening, chopping the grass down along the length of the boat so we could at least see where the bank was and see out of the windows!
It was still raining when we went off to Frampton, about a mile and a half away, to go to The Bell. While we were there it actually stopped raining and the cricket started on the green which was nice.
This evening, between football matches, we had some of the haddock we bought yesterday and it was really good. Tomorrow is supposed to be a wash out weather wise so who knows what we’ll be doing!
