Shepherd’s Patch to Sharpness – Almost no rain today!

What a lovely day it’s been compared to some recent offerings. Today it has only rained a couple of times and then only later on when it didn’t matter anyway as we were in watching football. Well, I say that, the first sudden sharp shower we had did catch me unawares with both sides of the cratch cover open! It also caught the couple of people on the cruiser in front unawares as they were languishing on the towpath in deck chairs at the time!

We have travelled another 4 miles from Patch to Sharpness today and it was a lovely trip. We turned round at the end of the canal near the marina and moored somewhere in the middle between the bottom and the old railway bridge remains.

The view here is lovely as ever and it was so nice to be able to moor in the short grass of the well cut moorings too! The first, apart from Patch, which have been mown this year. After sorting ourselves out and having a shower we headed for the Docker’s Club where we sat outside enjoying the view and the nice weather.

We met a chap there who owns a Staffie who has similar itching and chewing problems to those which afflicted poor old George. We tried to remember the name of the awful smelling stuff we used to smear on his feet to stop him from chewing them but it eluded us. He was a nice chap and has a boat in the marina here which he is currently trying to refurbish with skills but very little cash.

We have decided that as the river will probably be closed for some time there is no point in rushing back to Gloucester. Also as there is to be an improvement in the weather this weekend we will stay here tomorrow. I will clean the boat and Ken will fish – probably.
