Thursday 9th September
We shouldn’t have been so smug yesterday when we passed that long queue at the lock. Why? Because exactly the same thing happened to us today. We arrived at our first lock (of an intended 2) to find 8 boats in front of us! Aaargh! It took about an hour and a half to get through it. In that time I made bacon sandwiches, had a long conversation with Barbara on the phone and helped with the lock for 3 other boats. After we had got through we decided to moor up before the next one in Middlewich and assess the situation.
As it happened, when we did walk up to the next lock, there was only one boat there. However, we had already done 3 and a half hours and our batteries were charged so we stayed here and took George to the pub.
After the pub we went into town and got a bargain deal on naturediet at the pet shop. It’s a good job I never found the pet shop in Chester then! We also found a Tesco, so we can have another stock up on the way back through to Audlem, after we have been to Anderton to look at the boat lift.
I have lit the fire again tonight and it has exploded black sooty deposits all over my nice clean paintwork – bugger! I really must clean that chimney.
