On The Llangollen Canal

Friday 24th September

We are finally on the Llangollen Canal at Burland.

Yesterday we left Coole Pilate and went to Nantwich. As luck would have it, just as we arrived at the Aqueduct moorings, which as usual were chocker, a boat was leaving, so we got in quick. Ken and I then walked 2 miles to Stapeley Water Gardens to go to the Angling Centre. Ken needed more maggots. After this we came back via the town centre. The Oddfellows, a very nice pub which we discovered when we were there before, was shut so we had to try another pub. The beer was good but the service was a bit terse.

This morning Ken walked into town for a paper (very energetic) then we left for the Llangollen. It was drizzly and there was a cold wind. After the pleasant weather earlier in the week this was a bit of a pain. Winter’s here already, good job I kept last night’s fire in today!

There were several boats going in both directions at Hurleston Locks and the lock keeper was there keeping order. We only travelled about another mile after the locks and moored up. There were only 2 other boats here at the time but these moorings are now full.

We are heading for Wrenbury tomorrow. Hopefully it will be nice enough for us to take George to the pub.
