Wednesday January 12th
I’ve had a really bad week, you wouldn’t believe it! And it’s only Wednesday!
The first disaster happened on Monday. We went in to the village, along the towpath, as we so often do. Mum and Dad say it’s better for me to go the long way round, I don’t know why! Anyway, there were some particularly nice smells so I took longer than usual. I knew there was something wrong when we missed the usual path through the park to the back of the Green Dragon. However, I knew we could get there along the road so I humoured the parents and went along with them. But, when we got to the road we went straight past the alley which leads to the pub and I became suspicious. Dad went ahead and came back saying something about the Rising Sun not being open and before I knew what was happening I got dragged across the road to The Green Man. I have never been in there before and thought it was a bit odd. However, I still haven’t been in there because Dad came out saying their labradoodle was in the bar and I couldn’t go in as I am such a grumpy bugger with other dogs!
So this was a disaster, my favourite pub, The Green Dragon, has closed for refurbishment, what ever that is and won’t be open again until the end of February. The Rising Sun does not seem to open at lunchtimes and The Green Man has a dog loose in it! Where am I going to go now for a lie in front of the fire and a bit of fuss?
Anyway, me and Mum were hanging around outside the Green Man, waiting for Dad to come back from the cash point when a man came up and said – ‘Now there’s a face that looks really lived in’. I thought ‘Mum’s not going to be very impressed with that!’ but it turned out he was talking about me, what a cheek! He made up for it a bit by giving me a pat but I was a bit put out.
I was even more put out by the fact that I had to go straight home without going in the pub! Dad said it was my own fault for being so miserable and not liking other dogs but I think I should be allowed in pubs on my own! I was knackered by the time I got back to the boat as well.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, this morning at 4-15 am I fell in the marina! It was Mum’s fault really because she should have taken me out before she went to bed while it was not raining but as I was fast asleep at the time she left me. Consequently I had to go out in the middle of the night when it was really wet. I had a wee and on my way back to the boat I had to shake myself because of the rain and as I can’t see very well, especially at night, I fell off the edge of the pontoon! That was a shock I can tell you, I have never been in the water before and surprised myself by discovering that I can actually swim! Anyway, I was thrashing about in the water and Mum had to pull me out by my collar which made me choke! I shook myself all over the inside of the boat when I got back, that’ll teach her to take me out at a sensible time!
Today, as I am not able to go to the pub in the village at the moment, I had to go for a walk round the marina, which took me about an hour and although I quite enjoyed it, roll on The Green Dragon opening again!
