You join us as we prepare to get the hell out of Dodge for Xmas! The decorations are going up on the boats\u00a0here. There are trees and icicle lights (aaargh, who on Earth thought they were a good idea?) everywhere!\u00a0Actually, even we have our decorations up……………..well, we have a rather tasteful wreath on the front of the cratch. It has to be done really!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Monday we will set off for our trip to Gunthorpe and jolly glad we are about it too! Three weeks in Thurmaston is enough for anyone really.\u00a0 This week they pulled another body from the river in the park, the second since we have been here! We came back from Birstall to find the bridge over the weir\u00a0taped up with crime scene tape and police divers on the bank. As the other bridge near us\u00a0is closed because it is\u00a0under repair we had to sneak under the tape to get over the river to the boat yard! Later we heard the police had also caught an armed man in the car park! \u00a0He wasn’t\u00a0connected to the body though\u00a0I don’t think. Lovely!<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearby Syston and Birstall are\u00a0nice villages but I’m afraid dear old Thrummy really is the poor relation. Having suffered some mindless, not abuse exactly, let’s say pathetically stupid\u00a0treatment in the local pub and in the waterpark,\u00a0from some old git with a pitbull and an obvious drink problem, we have taken to walking George over to Birstall to the Old Plough. This has been a very pleasant experience, especially for George as they love him there and ply him with chews and sausages!\u00a0A visit to the Old Plough\u00a0can be coupled with a trip to the shops (of which there are very few in Thurmaston), so kills 3 birds with one stone, walk, (two if you count there and back),\u00a0pub and\u00a0shopping. We have also walked, on our own, to Syston a few times which is a tidy step, we are so healthy!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boat wise,\u00a0we have had\u00a0a shiny new inverter fitted to replace the dead one so we can use the 24ov without running the engine when we go. Ken has modified the cratch bolts so the cratch boards don’t wobble about any more. We have\u00a0put extra fire bricks in the fire box of the\u00a0stove to make the\u00a0space smaller, it is now\u00a0possible\u00a0to make a small, deep, fire which is easy to keep\u00a0in over\u00a0night, so we are always toasty. In fact I haven’t had to relight the fire for weeks, any one want any kindling? <\/span><\/p>\n
