I could have got one if I had gone up to Kessingland, but who wants to go there?

Anyway we had a lovely time on our Suffolk jaunt, even if the weather was a bit dodgy! We caught up with some friends (yes we, do have a few!) and family. Ate a lot, drank quite a bit (surely not!). We had some lovely walks in the woods, even George enjoyed himself! Truly he was like a different dog to what he is here, bless. He was very impressed with the underfloor heating in the cottage!

When we left on the Friday it was snowing fit to blind you and we were hoping it was not going to be a problem. There was about 6in of snow laying from just outside Leicester to past Peterborough. Fortunately the nearer we got to E A the smaller the amount of snow there was, hurrah! We made good time and after a flying visit to H W we headed to Southwold to get some fish! We have missed the fresh, cheap, gorgeous fish. We had a nice piece of rock (rock eel, dog fish, huss) for us teas, yum. We also got a real, whole smoked mackerel and some shell-on prawns too, double yum. We had these Sunday evening, even though we had had a huge roast lunch (and afters) at the Earsham Queen’s Head with Tim!

Sat morning we had a nice walk then we took George to see uncle Peter. George was a bit confused to find him living in our house! However, a good sniff round inside and out soon sorted that out, especially when he found the biscuits were on the coffee table as usual! We left him there while we went to test the waters at the Hart. Very expensive compared to the prices round here we discovered!

Monday we went for another nice walk. We had to take George 100yds up the road in the car before he would walk though (he still has his gremlins!) Then we took him and Peter to Bungay Chequers. The toasted cheese and ham sandwiches were delicious, and cheap as well! In the evening we went to Cleone’s for an Italian meal with Peter, Tim and Big Dave. The food was fab as usual and we had a really good time. George enjoyed the bit of steak I saved him too!

Tuesday (my birthday) Mum and Dave and Tony and Trish came over for lunch at the Dunwich Ship. We went for a walk on the cliffs first. After lunch we returned to the cottage for ……. choccie birthday cake, hurrah!

Wednesday Linda came over and we went to Southwold. I tell you what, some of the prices they get away with charging for clothes there are ridiculous! For example a short denim jacket with frayed hems (trendy apparently) £425, leggings you can see through £39 in Collen and Clare !!!!!! I kid you not. We were shocked. I did buy a nice pair of crocs though and Linda got a necklace in Daddy Longlegs. Unfortunately we made a bad choice of lunch venue and went to The King’s Head. The sandwiches were huge and the leek and potato soup was so thick, like baby food, that we couldn’t dip the sandwiches in to help them down! Mine being filled with grated cheese was particularly difficult to eat daintily. After lunch we went for a bracing walk on the prom and it was freezing! Then it was back to the cottage for more choccie birthday cake, hurrah!

Thursday morning we visited Peter again before we went to Southwold for a walk on the dunes and to get some more fish to take home with us. Mum and Dave joined us for this outing and we ended up in the Harbour Inn (surely not!) where the food prices warrant a mortgage to be taken out if you want to eat, so we had crisps!

Friday we came home to lovely Thurmaston. Actually it’s not so bad now the weather has improved. Unfortunately our new shower still leaked (actually worse than before) and the back boiler wasn’t completely fitted (it is now) so we were a bit peeved.

In my next post I will let you know how I got on when I took my helmsman’s course last Sunday.
