Latest Developments

Hi Everyone,

Here I am once more back from 2 days in Thurmaston. Not much progress to actually see on ‘Waveney’ but lots of ‘behind-the-scenes’ stuff has happened.

Firstly the engine is finally in and in the process of being set up (or what ever you call connecting an engine!). The central heating is in (yes we have radiators exactly like those ‘normal’ people have in houses!) Our 100 gallon stainless steel water tank arrived as we were there too.

In the showeroom the heated towel rail and the shower cubicle are in. The tiling is done and it looks fabulous (all down to the choice of tiles of course!).

The kitchen tiling is done too and also looks really good. The portholes are now framed ready for the blinds to be fitted, when I eventually get round to telling Martin which ones I want! Our Squirrel multi-fuel stove is ready to be put in too.

We have seen Kevin the sign writer and he is coming up with designs for the lettering of ‘Waveney’ and the scrolls. We have given him the pictures of the Marsh Harrier and the Bittern we want painted on the side and he seems to think it will be no problem to recreate them.

We also went to see Darren the upholsterer (a bit of a trek up the M1 to Derby in all that heat on Monday!) and chose fabric for the dinette and bow locker seats.

Unfortunately I was still unable to take full length photos of the outside of ‘Waveney’ because British Waterways had 2 of their barges moored up in our spot, as they are working on the towpath improvements, so she was confined to the tunnel. We did see some photos Mark had taken of her when they had her out to put the engine in, to display on their board when they went to Crick in May. She looks magnificent!

It’s all coming together really nicely and will be completed in 5 weeks. We are going to Thurmaston again in 3 weeks to keep an eye on things. I will have retired by then, yay!

More news soon.

Cheers, B.
