The Agony of Waiting!!

Aaaagh…….. this all seems to be taking so long now !!!! 4 weeks ago we were told ‘Waveney’ would be finished in 5 weeks, last week we were told it would still be 4 weeks until completion. I know they want to do a good job etc etc but it’s really frustrating for us. We have got things to co-ordinate here, cancellations of services etc to be done and Peter wants to move in soon, but with no clear date we are a bit stuck. I’m sure it will all work out well in the end but at the moment it’s ……….. aaaaargh!!!

Any way we went to Thurmaston last week to check on progress and take some of our, ever growing, mountain of stuff to be moved on to the boat, to be put into storage at the boat yard.

Although there had been a lot done to ‘Waveney’ in the 3 weeks since we were last there, there was still not much to see and still much to be done!

The engine is up and running now, very nice it sounds too …….. apparently. There is a rather space age panel of switches in the engine room, to do with batteries, alternators, generators and inverters (I think), which I am sooo looking forward to learning about!

Various pieces of built in furniture have started to appear (mostly half finished), however these do not include the bed! The Squirrell is in although it is still sans chimney! Its tiled surround and plinth look good though.

The floor tiles are down in the kitchen and showeroom and very nice they look. The worktop, sink and hob have been fitted and the microwave has been slotted into its shelf. Unfortunately the cooker was damaged and had to go back! No sign of the fridge. No sign also (more worryingly) of the toilet!!

We have commissioned Kevin to do the signwriting, hopefully this will be soon. The blinds, wooden flooring, seat covers and bow locker covers have been ordered, as has the cratch cover (we hope). The washing machine arrived about 3 weeks ago I think.

I spoke to Martin this morning and he says they are really struggling with this heat working in the tunnel. I hope none of them get heat stroke or it will be even longer before we get a completed boat! Good job they drink plenty of tea to keep their fluid levels up!

Anyway Rome wasn’t built in a day and ‘Waveney’ obviously isn’t going to be finished by the beginning of June as we had hoped, more like the middle of July, ho hum!

Am getting used to retirement (didn’t take long!) still waking up early but managing to turn over and go back to sleep! Lovely.

Cheers B.
