Thursday 21st April
After a couple of lovely days moored in beautiful countryside near East Marton necessity has made us move 5.5 miles and 3 locks to Barnoldswick, where we are moored opposite Lower Park Marina. We have filled with diesel, got more coal (just in case there is a cold snap after this magnificent weather!) and got water, emptied the loo and been into town shopping.
We have to be back here for next Thursday because Barbara’s daughter is coming for a visit. So I have made a hair appointment with one of the hairdressers in town for that day. We will stay Friday as well because Barbara wants to watch the Wedding. Barry is also going to have his battery management system fitted here, so we will be pottering around this area for another week.
We had originally planned to go back to where we have just come from for Easter but it is a popular spot and was filling up last night. There are only certain places where you can get in to the bank along there as it is shallow and there is a rock shelf in places. We also spoke to a lad at the water point on the way here this morning who was in a convoy of 3 boats and they were going up there. It would be a pity to go all the way back and find we couldn’t get in.
We may go down to the Foulridge tunnel tomorrow or the next day and suss it out ready for when we go. There is a village about a mile from here called Saltersford where the pub has magnificent stalactites in the cellar (allegedly) so we thought we’d go there as well. We may go back to the top of the locks at Greenber Field too as it was quite nice up there.
Talking of the locks at Greenber Field, they were the last of the going up ones. We are at the summit of the Leeds and Liverpool now so it’s all down hill from here!
