Barrowford to Hapton (through Burnley)

Wednesday 27th April

Well, I didn’t clean the neglected side of the boat yesterday. It was chilly and windy and I didn’t feel like standing out there cleaning. We all went in to Nelson and looked round the shops (and pub) instead. It was quite a pleasant walk along the towpath.

Ken managed to get the drill bits he needed from Jewson’s so he can put the rest of the D rings on the handrails for the fenders. Barry nearly bought a new fishing rod but by the time we had gone to the pub and he had made his mind up to get one, the shop had shut! Barbara and I bought clothes – like we really need new clothes!

Today we have travelled 10 miles (0 locks hurrah!) through Burnley, which is a bit grim it has to be said, to Hapton. We stopped off at a convenient Tesco’s, in Burnley, for a stock up and did water etc at Rose Grove (a misnomer if ever there was one!) so we can stay here a few days. Barbara’s daughter is coming tomorrow and Barbara wants to watch the wedding on Friday. Ken says he wouldn’t open the curtains if the wedding was being performed right outside the window!
