Burnley on the Bus

Friday 29th April

Today Barbara has been watching the Royal Wedding since dawn! Ken and I have been in to Burnley on the bus. Free for old gits and £4 for us youngsters! The town is much like any other with a shopping centre, covered market (closed today though), all the usual shops etc, etc. The bus station is very near the Tesco’s we were at on Wednesday and the town centre so it is really convenient. As luck would have it it is also close to the Wetherspoon’s, bonus! Actually, all joking aside, The Boot is probably the nicest Wetherspoon’s we have been in – so far. And with Abbott Ale at £2-05 a pint you can’t fault it.

Today’s main purpose though was to get some new rucksacks. Ours were just too cheap and have already succumbed to the pressure of our mammoth shopping trips! We went in to an Outdoor store (also near the Wetherspoon’s as it happens) and got a couple of hiking ones at great expense. Ken’s is larger than mine but I will have to keep an eye on him at the checkout next time we go shopping or I may end up carrying the wrong one home!

We also went in to Focus, unusual to find one in a town centre, where Ken was delighted to receive an old git’s discount card, oops sorry, I mean a Focus Privilege 10% discount card. However he was not so delighted to find they didn’t have half what he wanted!

On our return Barbara, who doesn’t usually cook, presented us with a homemade bread and butter pudding, yum!

Tomorrow we are moving on, Rishton is the goal but we don’t really know. We want to be in the vicinity of Wigan by next Thursday because Peter is dropping in on his way to Scotland, so we need to get a bit of a shift on now.
