Hapton to Oswaldtwistle (yes really!)

Saturday 30th April

Here we are at Oswaldtwistle (fab name) which is between Church and Rishton. We had planned to stop at Church but to say the moorings were a little unusable would be an understatement. So we were going to go on to Rishton but found this lovely spot, with great views, between the two and moored. It is very windy today taking the edge off the temperature somewhat but out of the wind it is really hot.

We all walked to Rishton (30 mins) and found the moorings there were a bit more stable but the views left a lot to be desired so we were glad we stopped where we did. Rishton is not a bad town with a Coop and various other shops. We also had to go to the pub, of course and chose The Roebuck Inn. Our disappointment at there being no real ales was soon overcome by the discovery that Guinness was only £1-95 a pint! As the offer didn’t apply to halves I had to have a pint instead of my usual 2 halves otherwise my pint would have cost over £3! I managed.

Tomorrow we have to tackle the locks in Blackburn then get the Hell out of Dodge as it can be a bit dodgy mooring there over night. It will be a long day, so we are making an early start. We are still about 6 miles from the top lock, we have to get water and empty the loo after 2 locks, do the other 4 locks then carry on another 4 miles to Riley Green, where we plan to stop. If it’s not any good we can go on another couple of miles to Withnell Fold. We don’t want to go much further than that because there is another flight of 7 locks and we don’t want to have to do them in the same day!
