Monday 2nd May
Today we had another sort out of the bow lockers and under the bed, getting rid of more stuff we don’t really need and moving things around to better positions. Ken can now do any little maintenance jobs or touch up painting without losing the will to live, while clambering over George’s cage, to hunt in the bow lockers, for tools etc which always seem to be totally inaccesible!
Lunchtime Ken and I walked in to the village to try the Royal Oak which, although a very nice pub, wins the prize for most expensive beer and most pretentious (and expensive) menu so far! Eg on the menu – Baby Leg of Lamb (Lamb Shank to you and me) £14-95, Pan Fried Calves Liver and Caramelised Onions (Liver and Onions) £10-95 and Cheese and Onion sandwich (Wensleydale and Red Onion mind you, with mixed leaves) £5-95! The beer, although good, was £3-35 a pint so it needed to be!
This evening we all went to the Boatyard Inn (nearer and cheaper) for a meal for Barry’s birthday. The food was a bit bog standard to be honest but ok. Barbara ordered a burger but had to have a couple of slices of bread with it because they had run out of burger buns, Ken’s gammon looked more like a thick slice of bacon than a steak and my ‘homemade’ lasagne was probably homemade by Brake Bros! Nevertheless we had a good night, rounded off by Barry giving us a glass of Oban whisky, Ken’s favourite and us falling asleep and missing the end of the programme we were watching on tv.
