Wednesday 22nd June
Another showery day today, in fact the current shower has now lasted nearly 2 hours. I’d call that rain wouldn’t you? We have travelled 3.5 miles from Barnton to just below Hunt’s Locks at Northwich.
This morning Ken had to check the batteries so B and B went first and moored in the town at Town Bridge in Northwich. The moorings they went in were fairly high and it was difficult for them to get off the boat! Kizzy tried to jump up on to the bank and fell back onto the gunwhale on her tummy, bless! We arrived some time later and went in to the sanitary station moorings. B and B went into town shopping. After we had got water, done the elsan and rubbish we moved on a bit further and moored just before Hayhurst Bridge. We then went in to town.
On the way we saw B and B coming back and they said they were going to move because their mooring was just too high. We said there were a couple of spaces near us so they said they would have a look. However, they phoned later and said they had moved on to Hunt’s Locks. We went to the pet shop and the Wetherspoon’s (of course) then we went to Sainsbury’s. Ken had a lovely time eating all the ‘taster’ cakes on the bakery counter while I was waiting to be served! We bought some very naughty fruit topped custard tarts, like you get in French patisseries, 3 for 2. Not that himself needed any more cakes!
When we got back we also moved on to Hunt’s Locks. It is a very nice mooring here and apparently there is a pub just round the back of some cottages we can see from here (storing that away for future reference!). B and B saw it when they went for a walk to find the fishing tackle shop, which is some way out of the town centre, near the station.
Tomorrow we are going down to Winsford which is the end of the navigation. Due to circumstances beyond their control B and B have got to return to Thurmaston so they will go back to Anderton in the afternoon ready to go up the lift on Friday. We have enjoyed travelling with them and we have had some real laughs.
Ken and I are going to hang around on the Weaver until we can get our prop fixed. Whenever that may be!
