Monday 4th July
Today we have come a very great distance – 2 miles and 4 locks in scorching weather and have stopped at Rode Heath, where we walked to yesterday. It took somewhat longer to get here by boat than it did to walk! After a visit to the shop (a very convenient convenience store) and a sandwich we took George to the pub. It was lovely sitting there in the shade.
In the afternoon it was really hot and Ken was suffering badly with hayfever. He took a piriton and went to bed for a couple of hours. I made a minced beef pie, the oven contributing to the heat inside the boat no end! George didn’t know where to put himself and I had to fix up the foil blanket in the cratch to try and keep him cool.
In the evening Ken and I went back to the pub to take advantage of the half price grill night. Ken had a mixed grill, I had a 10oz rump steak and we had a bottle of wine and the bill was £21, can’t be bad! We will stop there on the way back!
It was a lovely warm night so we sat outside until about 10pm. The opportunities for this are few and far between usually. We had a rather protracted chat with Dai (yes he is Welsh) and another couple who were moored behind us. The woman told me I had gorgeous hair, must be mad!
Moving on to the Maccie tomorrow.
